Born out of the production of Dare to Be, a documentary feature film on women’s rowing and the human spirit, Dare to Be Films utilizes the skills of small footprint documentary storytelling. Throughout the four years of filming Dare to Be, filmmaker and DTB Films founder Adam Reist streamlined his production set-up to allow him to carry everything he needed on his back, thus allowing him to non-invasively shoot anywhere needed at a moment’s notice. Not only did this give Adam tremendous flexibility and cost effectiveness, but it also created a unique sense of intimacy between Adam and his subjects, giving the finished project an honesty and point of view not achievable while filming with bigger crews. Adam realized that this style of shooting could very effectively work in many different types of productions and there began Dare to Be Films. Today, Dare to Be Films continues to build upon this small footprint technique, as well as utilize traditional larger scale productions.
Adam Reist’s career in the entertainment industry has spanned over two and a half decades. He brings a wealth of creative experience and expertise from his film and video production work on projects ranging from documentaries to short films to television commercials and more. He directed and co-produced the women’s rowing documentary Dare to Be which was released in 2017, as well as the critically acclaimed and award winning short films Supertalk, starring Kathleen Chalfant and Billy Crudup, and Back to One.
From 2004 to 2009, he was a Director on CBS's daytime drama Guiding Light. Prior to that, Adam worked as a Stage Manager on Guiding Light, Another World, ESPN, The Madison Square Garden Network and Telemundo. His career accolades include being a member of the 2004 DGA Award winning Outstanding Drama Series Directing team and 1994 Daytime Emmy winner for Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team. Adam is a member of the Directors Guild of America and The University of North Carolina’s Order of the Golden Fleece.
When Adam isn't creating visually, you'll find him pursuing his other passion, singing and playing lead guitar for the NY-based band, Twist of Fate.
